Objection Raised Against Anurag Kashyap's Short Film In Netflix's Ghost Stories
The OTT space in India had been censor-free for the longest time but not anymore now. In early 2021, with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting formulating the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021, things changed. This got the Indian OTT platform to acknowledge the grievances and issues faced by viewers. As soon as it came into effect, Netflix India received its first complaint about its 2020 Anthology, Ghost Stories.

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, Ghost Stories’ featured a scene where actress Sobhita Dhulipala’s onscreen character is seen eating the foetus after she suffers a miscarriage. As per reports in Mid-Day, the complainant has raised concern about it -- questioning the necessity of the scene. The complaint read, “The scene is not required for the story, and if the creators wished to add such a scene, there should have been a trigger warning for women who have gone through the trauma of miscarriages.”

Netflix India spokesperson states as they had partnered and managed the production, hence, they have reached out to concerned company, “As this was a partner-managed production [RSVP Movies and Flying Unicorn Entertainment], we reached out to the production company to share the complaint.”

Anurag Kashyap, reacting to this complaint, penned in his Instagram story, “So it has started... A complaint came to Netflix on Ghost Stories. This is the end.” ALSO READ: Ghost Stories: Anurag Kashyap On Giving A Kiss To Actors, ‘You Give Me Good Shot, You Get A Pappi’
